I was looking around the Internet (as is my wont) when I ran across this t-shirt , which caught my eye and caused me to pause for a moment's contemplation.     This little rascal made me think of a number of things. First of all, it reminded me of a number of IT guys I've run across in the past. This sentiment totally reflects the look on their faces when you are trying to explain some problem with your system.   My mind's next port of call was the fact that, when I return home in the evening, my wife, Gina the Gorgeous, loves to share her day with me. Gina is a realtor, and her stories invariably start off along the lines of "I met a lovely couple today. They have three beautiful children -- two boys and a little girl. The little girl is drop-dead beautiful. All three kids are incredibly intelligent. The family is moving into town from Armpit, Arkansas. The husband is an engineer. I told him all about you and gave him your email address and told him that you would love for him to visit you in your office. And you won't believe what his wife does..."   By this time my eyes have glazed over and my mind has taken a brave leap through the time-space continuum to thoughts of "Max's World" (where the colors are brighter, the butterflies are bigger, the birds sing sweeter, and the beer is plentiful and cold)...   I'm sorry, where were we? Oh yes. I think it's safe to say that when Gina is next regaling me with her adventures du jour , I will be imaging myself wearing this t-shirt.   But we digress... My next thought was of the little character sitting on the corner of my desk facing the door holding a sign that says, "I took my pain pill. Why are you still here?"     And then my mind turned to the Sheldon character in The Big Bang Theory and how he is always wearing interesting t-shirts. I wonder who is in charge of hunting these little rascals down for him.   And finally, I started thinking that I rarely wear t-shirts myself -- these days I pretty much stick to my Hawaiian shirts -- but that if I did deign to don these little scalawags, which ones would I prefer?   I R an engineer, and I must admit that -- even though I don't typically wear them myself -- I do like t-shirts with a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) twist to them. The strange thing is that even though my family and friends rarely see me wearing t-shirts, they still tend to give me them as presents (it's a funny old world and no mistake). One of the favorite items in my collection of t-shirts I don't wear carries the legend "I'm no rocket surgeon." Another presents a graphic treatment of Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock.   But I fear we are in danger of wandering off into the weeds. The reason for this blog was to ask you about your favorite STEM-related t-shirts. Are there any that bring a smile to your lips or even make you laugh out loud? If so, please share them with the rest of us in the comments below.

In the US, comdian Jeff Foxworthy is known for his "You might be a redneck if …" jokes.   Typical examples might be along the lines of: You might be a redneck if … … you ever cut your grass and found a car. … you own a home that's mobile and five cars that aren't. … you think "loading the dishwasher" means getting your wife drunk.   Well, my chum and fellow EE Times blogger Glen Chenier just sent me an email suggesting we ask the EE Times community for equivalent "You may be an engineer if …" jokes. It seems this was prompted by Glen's stepdaughter posting a picture on Facebook showing something Glen has been doing for years without giving it a second thought -- using a pair of pliers as nutcrackers.     The funny thing is that, almost immediately after I'd read Glen's email, I ran across a somewhat-related column titled "You know you’re an engineer if...". There are some really good offerings in that article. Personally, I really like the one that goes, "You know you’re an engineer if you carry on a one-hour debate over the expected results of a test that actually takes only five minutes to run."     Now, I know that this "You may be an engineer if …" concept isn’t new (what is?), but I still think it's both funny and thought-provoking, so I'd like to invite you to contribute some suggestions -- either ones you've seen elsewhere, or ones that have come to you over the years.   Actually, since I'm extremely interested in the various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiatives, let's widen our search to include any of these domains. So, over to you -- hit me with your best efforts!
