Which factors impact on signal attenuation?
In real world, many factors will attenuate the transmitted signals, and in most cases, all these factors take effect at the same time. Generally, these factors involve


  1. Dielectric loss(including semiconductor loss), such as non-ideal electral/magnetic dielectric materials, air loss, fiber loss..
  2. Conductor loss(limited conductivity), skin effect...
  3. Radiation (time-varied electromagnetic field, thermal loss)
  4. Characteristics of signal:Frequency Modes
  5. Load characteristic:matching, loss

一般来说信号的衰减于信号本身特性,传输信号的通道特性,以及接受信号负载的特性有关。

  1. 介质(包括半导体)损耗,比如微带线的非理想电/磁介质,无线传输的空气介质损耗,光传输的光纤损耗....
  2. 金属损耗,有限电导率以及带来的skin effect
  3. 辐射损耗:电磁辐射,热辐射等
  4. 信号本身特性:不同频率的信号通过信道的能力不一样
  5. 负载特性:匹配情况,负载损耗情况
