Thu Aug 20 2009 18:44:46 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time) Not For Software Engineers He had always been convinced that computers could never do what humans did. But
now he wasn’t so sure. Computers had completely trashed other careers that used
to require experts: graphic art, music, animation… anyone with a few bucks could
get a program and do a mediocre job. And lots of people were satisfied with
mediocre because it’s cheap. And so the skilled people found themselves
competing with fresh-out-of-college minimum-wage newbies by the dozens. It
wasn’t a career anymore, it was just mass labor. Pushing a mouse....His job was safe. Maybe this would be useful for saving some time, but he was
far from being replaced.
