原创 一个外籍教师写的MX3评测报告（一）

这篇魅族MX3的试用报告是来自我儿子“深中手机社团”的一位特殊社员——外籍教师所写，他是一位摄影和IT发烧友，儿子将魅族MX3给他试用，这是他试用一个月后的长报告。。。他的总结是：“Actually it’s a really great piece of technology. I am surprised. ”

让我们看看这世上最中立的消费者眼中的魅族MX3吧。

Test report Meizu MX 3 / 64GB

This test was done by a user, not a computer- or IT-expert or a cell-phone technician, and all the Data and Results are from the point of view of a user. So, this test will be not very technical, but based on experiences the customer would make after using this phone for some time. I try to focus on the practical part of the test and leave out a lot of technical details and terms.

Package / Carton

The new “Meizu MX3” comes in a really simple box. It seems, that Meizu does not need to impress the buyer with large, colorful and shiny cartons. It seems that they think, “the product will speak for itself”. And I would say, “it surely does that”. This simple, uncolored, natural brown carton is easier to recycle and that is already a little contribution to environmental protection. Thanks for that from “mother nature”.
In the box is another little box with the phone and some manual. Also included is a wall-charger, an earphone set and a Micro-USB-cable for charging and for the connection with a computer.

First Impression

Taking out the phone of the package, it feels very light and smooth. I don’t know, how many colors will be available in the future, but the white one, I got for this test, looks at least as noble and it feels as comfortable as other phones from a big Korean company or the phones with the little fruit-logo.  The entire front is black and the back with the lid, that covers it entirely, is white.

By the way, the front of the white MX3 looks noble than that of a white S3, because the MX3 has no white frame around the screen.
 

So the looks are quite excellent and it also feels good, although the back lid is plastic. But there’s no sunshine without at least a little shadow.

To take of the lid requires quite some skills. Small fingers and a little pin must be used to get this lid off. But once the SIM-card is inserted, there is no need to open the back again.

Size / Weight

The size is, compared with my old “S3” a little larger. The MX3 builds with 13,9 cm x 7,2 cm x about 2mm higher and about 1mm wider. For larger hands it’s quite easy to hold. It’s also a little more edgy than the Korean opponent. That makes it for some people a little easier to handle. The weight is pretty much the same.

Using the phone you will hardly find out that it’s just 10 g heavier than an S3. Some functions are, with a smartphone of that size, a little difficult to use with just one hand and your thumb on the screen, except you have a really large thumb. But that’s a problem with most of the new phones on the market for users with small, short fingers.

Display

The MX3 has a PowerVR SGX 544MP display from Imagination Technologies. This display has a resolution of 1080x1800 px and 400 px/in and is 5,1 inch large. The colors and brightness is as good as most other phones. Especially the colors seem to be a little more natural, and not as vivid as in many other smartphones. The option of the “automatic screen brightness” works. excellent and fast. This function saves energy and works, I feel so, a little faster than the S3. On the other hand sometimes the display is not sensitive enough, so it needs a second touch for some input.

Cameras

The rear camera is seriously not a highlight of this phone. It has 8 MP and a CMOS-sensor with a 2.0 aperture. This is really only sufficient for clear and bright photos at daylight. In the late afternoon or evening the photos are so noisy, that it’s not a real pleasure to watch them on a computer screen.
A real advantage over any smartphpone with camera I ever owned, the camera is accessable from the lock screen. You can start the camera function from the lock screen and give this phone to everybody without worrying that anybody can watch the photos you have taken before.
 

The camera has some functions available and you have to go quite deep in the menu for that.
ISO Auto, 50, 200, 400 and 800 but already at 400 the noise is seriously disturbing.
Whitebalance Auto, Flourescent, Outdoors and Incandescent.
At Capture Settings and there at the submenu “Realtime Filters” you find 15 different setups and filters for taken the next shot.
There is another setup for the Record Settings of a video. Available is 1080p, 720p and 480p.
The photo size can be chosen between 1MP, 3MP,5MP and 8MP.
The options of the camera are sufficient for a cell phone, but with modern technology there are photos of better quality possible.
For snapshots the camera is quite suitable, even for an amateur-photographer like me, and that’s what these phone cameras are made for. For serious photography a real camera will do of course a better job.
