这篇魅族MX3的试用报告是来自我儿子“深中手机社团”的一位特殊社员——外籍教师所写, 他是一位摄影和IT发烧友,儿子将魅族MX3给他试用,这是他试用一个月后的长报告。。。他的总结是:“Actually it’s a really great piece of technology. I am surprised. ”

让我们看看这世上最中立的消费者眼中的魅族MX3吧。

Test report Meizu MX 3 / 64GB

Storage Memory

This test I was quite luck as I got the first cell-phone with 64 GB memory. This is enough even for a photo and music collector like me. If anybody needs more storage, go get yourself a real computer. 64 GB is even enough for a lot of apps and pretty much more music you can listen to over a week and in additional to that it’s even possible to take a load full of photos. If real “storage junkies” still can’t get enough and search for a Micro-SD-Card slot, they won’t find any. But, to be honest, 64 GB is seriously enough and the memory is with it’s quad-core-processor really fast.

Processor

The MX3 has a quad-core CPU that is noticeably faster than the CPU in the S3. Probably it’s because the S3 has to gather information from the internal storage and the external SD card and the MX3 has just to work with a large internal storage. The change between apps is faster as well as the photo gallery gathers information faster in the MX3. Over all the MX3 feels quite faster than many other phones I have tried yet. Also the activation of the screen from the sleep mode works measurably faster. With the S3 the start-up time for the screen is about 2 seconds and with the MX3 this time can be measured with fractions of a second.

Software

The internal software or apps should not be forgotten. The factory setting is in many respects more suitable than that of many other phones.

The camera button on the lock screen was already mentioned earlier.
Another feature, similar to the “Multi-Windows” from Samsung, is a little bar that can be pushed up and there are saved the last 10 apps or functions that has been used lately. So, this is actually more useful as on a “Multi-Window” you can open only apps that are capable of this function. With the MX3 all apps can be opened that has been used recently.

Another really useful feature is the app-manager.
Here it’s possible to restrict or permit access of apps to different functions individually. Downloading apps always means, that these apps will have access to different functions of the phone. Why does, for example, Baidu Maps needs access to my call log or local calling records? With this app manager it’s possible to setup every app individually. This is one of the most useful functions I have found in a smart phone. This is really smart.

With this function in the app manager menu users will be pretty save, that apps won’t start a life of their own and spread information that supposed to be private.

There are also functions at the upper extendable bar available. There is Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, Datatransfer, Display Rotation and the Portable Hotspot. Notifications are also shown as know from other phones.

Battery

Now the best feature of the MX3 has to be mentioned. The battery. This little thing is quite a hell of an energy pack. With the S3 and the MX3 I used the same functions over a regular work day. For the S3 I always had to carry at least 1 spare battery in my briefcase. With the MX3 I come home in the evening and the battery has still at least  about 30% power left. I don’t know, how it works, but the battery of the MX3 is not only a good one, it’s just outstanding. Unfortunately it can’t be taken out, or I haven’t found a way to get it out. If the battery could be changed, there would be no need for carrying a charger for some weekend trip, if one or two spare batteries are available. With the regular use of only the phone, without Wifi or data transfer or GPS the battery will last at least 3-4 days. In my opinion another advantage over some other more expensive and more famous smart phones from Korea or the US.

Price

This phone is understandably cheaper, as it’s not as well-know and famous as some other brands. At least not yet. Give it some time and the newcomer smart phones will show big companies, that it’s possible to create seriously competitive and not least smarter phones at a lower price. For the Meizu MX3 with 64 GB storage the price ranges from about 2.500-2.800 RMB.

Verdict

In my opinion the Meizu MX3 is a serious competitor to smart phones such as Samsung S3, and with some minor upgrades even for an S4, and that at about half the price. Sure, some features might not be completely similar to the functions in other phones, but the largest part of the functions, features and apps are comparable. If a user is not into names and famous brands, and just want to get an equivalent value for his money, a Meizu MX3 is a very good choice. After the first 2-3 weeks of this test, I didn’t use my S3 anymore, as the MX3 has all the functions the S3 also offers and it can do that even faster. The handling and the battery are great and some software features and apps, installed with the factory setup are even more useful than those of other phones. The size and weight is pretty much the same, so that it’s no problem to get used to this phone, ones you’re used to a smart phone at all.

The impressive memory of 64 GB is a serious advantage over many other phones, although there is no card slot for a micro-SD-card for further expansion of the storage.

As a little downside of this phone, the photo quality has to be mentioned, especially in low light conditions. On the other hand for some snapshots and some very useful apps, such as “CamScanner”, it’s still quite ok. That is one task Meizu might put a focus on.
After all, at least I think, Meizu shows, that it’s possible to build a competitive smart phone for a reasonable price, as they don’t charge extra for a “name”. They charge for a good product, for quality and useful functions and features, and not for a “logo”.
