"The gold that online sites sell to players is the same gold that you make in the game. There are a couple of different ways that the online gold selling sites get their gold, both are from players in the World of Warcraft though. The first way is through players just like you and I. Players that have learned the in's and out's of the auction house and other gold making strategies have been selling gold that they make in game to those online sites for cash. While I do not know the exact numbers on the amount that they pay per 100 or 500 gold you sell them, it isn't much, so you would have to sell a lot at a time to make any type of decent money at it. Players who decide to sell gold online simply go to the site and send in an email or form to contact the webmaster. Then, the webmaster will contact you through email or an instant message and arrange the transfer of the gold to them and the money to you. Different servers pay differently as well, so if you are on a server with a large population, you may not get as much as someone on a new server with a low population. The second way is through players that they have working for them, such as power levelers. Those players are usually in a foreign country, so there aren't strict rules on internet services and selling in game currency online. These players farm or make gold while they power level accounts and then turn it over to the main player for the online gold seller sites. Either way, selling gold to an online site is risky. You run the risk of getting your account banned if you are caught. So, if you do decide that you want to make some extra money by selling gold to online sites, make sure that you follow any rules you can and that you are extremely careful.
There are game masters and other Blizzard employees that watch the mail, so they will notice large amounts of gold being transferred all the time. Well- I think Blizzard isn't really concerned about gold sellers as much as they seem like they do. It doesn't hurt the game as much in the greater perspective of things. A very small fraction of a percent of players on WoW are actually involved in some way with the gold sellers.
wow gold Also, I don't blame the gold sellers. The game was designed in such a way to allow gold sellers to start their businesses, therefore I think it is the game developer's responsibility to actually modify the game to enforce rules (and improve gameplay by doing so). Just imagine a simple game like Pac-Man… if the game developers had a wall you could walk through… and they made a rule like, ""dont walk through this wall"" who's fault is it that some players are 'cheating'.

As always you really need to take caution if you decide to and yes it can get your account banned. Purchasing gold is against the World of Warcraft Terms of Use (TOS). Here is a tidbit from the main World of Warcraft site about this specifically. Ownership/Selling of the Account or Virtual Items.
