A wye-delta (Y-Δ or Y-D) motor starter is designed to start the motor with its windings in a wye configuration,
with reduced starting current and torque, then switch the motor
windings to a delta configuration so that it can run like a ‘normal’
motor, with regular full-load current and torque.
