Answer
When configured in bypass mode, an external clock signal must be provided to XIN with respect to the electrical characteristics specified in the product datasheet: 1.8V or 3.3V square wave signal depending on the device and moreover of the oscillator power supply. XOUT can be left unconnected when using the oscillator in bypass mode.
