ABSTRACT
Synthesizing large multi-million gate designs is a design task that challenges the design team on many fronts. The team will often consist of members from several different locations designing blocks, which are then integrated together into the complete chip. If all goes well, the full design will synthesize cleanly and be forwarded to layout. This paper covers some of the strategies used for managing the synthesis issues in one such design.
The paper focuses primarily on the design decisions and methodology used by the front-end design team of a large multi-million gate sub-micron ASIC. Several areas are discussed: RTL coding and synthesis studies which can be used to determine the best logi……
