Europe and the Middle East GSM/EDGE gives operators the capacity to handle 3G mobile services. Using EDGE, operators can handle three-times more subscribers than GPRS, either by tripling their data rate per subscriber to typically 120 to 160kbps, or adding capacity for voice. EDGE uses the same TDMA frame structure, logic channel and 200kHz carrier bandwidth as GSM, which allows existing cell plans to remain intact. No change is required in the core network.
